Welcome to my website! I am a Research Group Leader studying the impact of changing sea ice, freshwater fluxes, and ocean stratification on the ability of the Southern Ocean to take up and release carbon-dioxide and heat. Gaining a robust understanding of these processes and the related uncertainties is directly relevant to constraining future global climate change, allowable carbon-dioxide emissions for a given temperature target, and related sea level rise.

July 2022: What happens if climate change alters the ocean circulation? Our new paper in Global Biogeochemical Cycles: "The Deep Ocean's Carbon Exhaust", implies that a change in ocean circulation could critically change the release of CO2 that has been locked up in the deep ocean for thousands of years. It shows how ocean circulation brings this carbon that naturally accumulates in the deep ocean back to the surface in the Southern Ocean from where it leaks to the atmosphere.

I am looking forward to serving our community as part of this panel in the coming years.
